When we refuse to own our weaknesses we will be more focused on the failures of others.

Psychologists call this projection.

Apparently, we are only able to “read other people’s faults

because we know them so well- at a subconscious level- in ourselves.

But we cannot see how we are doing this because we are so defended against knowing our own issues. It’s too painful for us to recognize that we can sometimes be rude but it’s easy to point out a friend or a spouse when they’re rude.

This week observe begin to notice where and when you are angry or complaining or criticizing or condemning someone and you may get a glimpse of where you have failed to recognize and have compassion for your own brokenness in these same areas.

The negative things we see in others are a good source of insight toward our own self-awareness.

Jesus knew this when he reminded us to pull the beam out of our own eye before we call out the splinter in someone else’s.

Compassion for all- including ourselves- is The Way forward.
