In this podcast Episode, David & Caron Loveless discuss how to benefit from becoming more aware and getting a better handle on the types of undesirable thinking that plague us regularly.

Probably one of THE most helpful insights we’ve been given in recent years is this radical idea that we can actually take a step back to notice and question our own thoughts.

We can decide if the thoughts we’re thinking are legit, if they come from a solid place of Reality, of Goodness or if they’ve entered illegitimately through our fears or our negative, conditioned responses which can lead to self-doubt, anxiety & suffering.

I don’t think we talk about this enough– our thoughts are so directly tied to every single decision and conversation we have.  All of us are constantly acting and reacting to people and circumstances based on split second electrical brain impulses. We have thousands – maybe millions -of them every day – and they feel so familiar – so “Us” that sometimes we forget We are NOT our Thoughts.

The bottom line is: the more we can learn to observe and question our unproductive thoughts the happier, healthier and more successful we can become.

1) Judgments

2) Exaggerating

3) Either/Or

 4) Emotional Reasoning

Hugh Prather- The little mind is always feeling something – But I am called to address Who I Am, not how I feel. The answer is not to ignore or deny my emotions. In fact, I must become more aware of them- but in a different way -Now I use my awareness to take out the garbage.

No matter what else I’m thinking I can also think of God. That turns on a light. There is no contest between light and dark. Don’t try to get rid of the thought, just add light to it. Where there is light there is peace.

5) Mind-Reading

7) Mental Filtering

2 Cor 10 :5 We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ

1 Corinthians 2:16  But we have the mind of Christ to be guided by His thoughts and purposes.

Roman 12: 2 ….Be transformed and progressively changed as you mature spiritually by the renewing of your mind–focusing on godly values ( *that which brings LIFE To YOU and reflects the goodness of the kingdom of God in you)

2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart.
