Things seem to go empty just when you need them most.

Like, you’re making a turkey sandwich, you reach in the frig and the mayonnaise jar is empty.  Or, you’re twenty minutes late for an appointment across town and you look down and your fuel gauge reads “empty.” Or you’re hiking in the desert, in August, and you open your canteen but …it’s empty.

Empty things are a problem for us.

We furnish empty rooms. We feed empty stomachs. And we fill our lives with as much pizzazz and activity as we possibly can. Who wants an empty bank account, an empty mailbox or an empty closet?

There’s good reason we’re less than enthused about emptiness.

We are made in the image of God.

And God has quite a history of filling things.`

He filled space with stars, the earth with plants, the sky with clouds and the sea with fish, lungs with air, wombs with babies, cities with people, jars with oil, nets with fish, baskets with bread, sickness with health and hearts with gladness.

Detect a pattern?

Everywhere we turn God fills the hungry with food, the weary with rest, the panicked with peace, the mournful with joy and the lonely with love.

But for all Gods passion to fill things there was ONE thing God allowed to stay empty:

a tomb.

And, that was because, his goal all along,

was to finally fill us up,

forever,

with Himself.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds to mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

Psalm 107

* So, what are you truly hungry for right now?

* What part of you needs to be filled?

* Where is your tank empty?

* What missing thing are you aware of ?

Before you move on:

Take just a minute to get quiet… and acknowledge your empty place to God and then allow him the joy of filling it for you.

The earth is filled with your love, Lord…

Psalm 119: 64
